Evann Guessand has become the first player in history to win two major European trophies in the same season, following Crystal Palace’s 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old forward began the season with Aston Villa, where he featured in seven Europa League group stage matches, and will receive a medal for their campaign. Guessand then joined Crystal Palace on a six-month loan in January and played a key role in their Conference League knockout stage run, appearing in six matches including the final.
Guessand, a native of Ajaccio, France, has enjoyed a remarkable European campaign despite his mid-season move. He initially contributed to Aston Villa’s Europa League journey before becoming a vital part of Crystal Palace’s successful Conference League bid. The winger has represented the Ivory Coast internationally.
Crystal Palace secured their first ever European title with the win, while Aston Villa’s Europa League campaign ended in the quarter-finals. This unique achievement for Guessand highlights the increasing opportunities for players to participate in multiple European competitions within a single season through loan arrangements. The victory marks a significant milestone for both clubs and solidifies Guessand’s place in European football history.
