Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton has signed a new one-year contract with the club, according to reports from The Sun. The deal is expected to be officially announced in the coming days, securing the 40-year-old’s future as the team’s third-choice goalkeeper.
Heaton joined Manchester United in 2021, providing experienced cover in the squad. While he has made limited appearances, his professionalism and presence in the dressing room are highly valued by the club. This new contract reflects that appreciation and ensures continuity in the goalkeeping department.
The situation is more complex for Andre Onana, who spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Trabzonspor after being replaced as first-choice by Senne Lammens. Despite a contract that runs until 2028, Manchester United are reportedly keen to sell Onana this summer, though journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the player is open to returning for pre-season. Trabzonspor are exploring a permanent deal, but as of now, nothing is advanced.
Lammens’ arrival last summer for a reported £21 million has proven to be a success, with the goalkeeper quickly establishing himself as the number one and being lauded as the ‘Premier League signing of the season’. This has significantly altered the goalkeeping landscape at Old Trafford, leading to questions over the futures of both Onana and Altay Bayindir. The club’s willingness to part ways with Onana demonstrates their confidence in Lammens and their desire to reshape the squad.
Manchester United have already completed one signing this summer, and further additions are anticipated as they prepare for the upcoming season.
