Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of FC Bayern Munich, has stated that José Mourinho will not be successful in attempting to sign Michael Olise, despite the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager attending Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.
Mourinho was a guest of Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth at the match, sparking speculation he was scouting potential targets from Bayern. Reports have suggested Olise, recently named Bayern’s player of the season, was a key focus for the Portuguese coach, who is widely expected to take over at Real Madrid this summer.
Hoeneß was direct in his response when questioned about Mourinho’s interest in Olise, telling reporters, “He can keep five eyes on Olise – he won’t get him!” This statement firmly indicates Bayern’s intention to retain the winger despite potential external interest.
Olise joined Bayern from Crystal Palace last summer for a reported fee of £50 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player under Thomas Tuchel. He has contributed significantly with goals and assists, becoming a fan favourite and earning the club’s player of the season award in his debut campaign. His performances have drawn attention from several top European clubs, but Bayern appear resolute in their stance.
Mourinho’s potential return to Real Madrid is expected to trigger a period of squad restructuring at the Spanish giants, with the club potentially seeking to add attacking talent. Olise’s profile, as a dynamic and creative winger, would seemingly fit the bill, but Hoeneß’s comments suggest Bayern are unwilling to negotiate a sale. The club’s firm position reflects their ambition to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for both domestic and European honours, with Olise considered a crucial component of those plans. This firm stance from Bayern closes off a potential avenue for Mourinho as he begins to plan for his return to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The DFB-Pokal final between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart kicked off at 8pm CET.
