TSG Hoffenheim have seen a second bid for Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage rejected, according to reports from Deichstube. The offer, described as being in the low double-digit millions, fell short of Bremen’s valuation of the player.
Werder Bremen are reportedly seeking a fee of at least €14 million for Stage, who has indicated his desire to leave the club this summer. Personal terms between Hoffenheim and the Danish international are already believed to be agreed, complicating negotiations between the two Bundesliga sides.
Stage arrived at Werder Bremen in 2020 from FC Copenhagen for a reported transfer fee of €4 million. Since then, he has become a key component of the Bremen midfield, making over 130 appearances for the club across all competitions. Last season, he featured in 32 Bundesliga matches, contributing with three goals and five assists.
The 27-year-old’s current contract with Werder Bremen is valid until 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating position. Bremen’s willingness to hold out for their asking price suggests they are reluctant to lose a valuable player without receiving a suitable offer. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, are clearly keen to bolster their midfield options with Stage’s arrival.
This pursuit comes as Hoffenheim look to build on their recent Bundesliga form, finishing eleventh last season. Manager Pellegrino Matarazzo will likely see Stage as a player capable of providing both creativity and defensive solidity in the centre of the pitch. Werder Bremen, having secured their Bundesliga status, may use the funds from a potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
It remains to be seen whether Hoffenheim will return with a third bid, or if Stage will remain at Werder Bremen despite his expressed desire to move. The transfer window is still open, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
