Borussia Mönchengladbach have expressed interest in signing Isac Lidberg from SV Darmstadt 98 this summer, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club have reportedly made initial contact with both the player and Darmstadt regarding a potential transfer during the upcoming window.
Lidberg enjoyed a prolific season for Darmstadt in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals in 30 appearances. His impressive form was instrumental in helping Darmstadt secure promotion to the Bundesliga, however, it has also attracted attention from top-flight clubs. The 27-year-old has also earned three caps for the Swedish national team.
Darmstadt are currently facing a period of transition following their promotion, and have already lost another key attacking player in Frasier Hornby, who has moved to VfL Wolfsburg. Lidberg’s contract with Darmstadt runs until 2027, providing the club with a degree of security, but also potentially increasing the pressure to sell if a suitable offer arrives. Losing two significant goalscorers in one window could significantly impact their chances of establishing themselves in the Bundesliga.
At Mönchengladbach, Lidberg would likely face competition for a starting role from Tim Kleindienst. The club have also reportedly ruled out a return for Haris Tabakovic, potentially opening up a space in their attacking lineup. Mönchengladbach finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season and will be aiming to improve their attacking output if they are to climb the table next season.
The potential arrival of Lidberg would provide Mönchengladbach with a proven goalscorer, while a sale would provide Darmstadt with a significant transfer fee as they prepare for life in the Bundesliga. The move could prove beneficial for both clubs as they look to strengthen their squads for the upcoming campaign.
