Torino are actively pursuing Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri, according to comments made by Torino director of sport Petrachi in a recent press conference. The club is prioritizing strengthening both the goalkeeping and defensive positions ahead of the upcoming season.
Petrachi revealed that initial contact regarding Orlando Gill, a Paraguayan goalkeeper, was made well before the World Cup, but the deal stalled following a change in the presidency at San Lorenzo. He stated that the price for Gill has “tripled” since then, making a deal increasingly difficult. While not entirely closed off, the financial demands have become a significant obstacle.
Perri, 26, has emerged as a more attainable target. The Brazilian shot-stopper made 16 Premier League appearances and 4 FA Cup appearances for Leeds, though he lost his starting position in January. Prior to his time in England, Perri gained experience in Brazil and with Lyon, showcasing promising qualities. His recent performances have reportedly increased his value in the transfer market.
Torino are also considering other goalkeeping options, including Croatia’s Dominik Livakovic, currently with Fenerbahce. However, Petrachi indicated that they are focusing on a “top-level” goalkeeper who is eager to join the club, despite resistance from his current employers. The club is also monitoring several defensive targets, including Andrea Giorgini of Juve Stabia, Pietro Comuzzo of Fiorentina, Nathan Gassama of Baltika, and Ben Nelson of Leicester City. A bid of 7 million euros for Nelson was reportedly rejected by Leicester.
The pursuit of Perri reflects Torino’s need for a reliable goalkeeper, particularly with Abate seeking to solidify his squad. Securing a player with Premier League experience could provide a significant boost to their defensive stability. The potential arrival of Perri may allow Torino to shift focus to other defensive reinforcements, addressing multiple areas of need within the squad.
