Liverpool are monitoring two players who impressed at the recent World Cup, Mexico’s Gilberto Mora and Germany’s Felix Nmecha, according to reports. The Anfield club are seeking midfield reinforcements this summer and have identified the pair as potential targets.
Seventeen-year-old Mora played in four matches for Mexico during their run to the round of 16, where they were eliminated by England. His performances have attracted attention from clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich also reportedly interested. Football Insider quoted Pete O’Rourke as saying that “all of Europe’s big guns” would be keen on Mora should he become available.
Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha is also under consideration by Liverpool, with Manchester United also showing interest. Former Stoke City defender Robert Huth believes Nmecha would be a “perfect” fit for Liverpool, praising his ability to win the ball and suit a high-pressing style of play. Huth suggested Nmecha’s performances at the World Cup demonstrated qualities that would align well with the Reds’ system.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Manchester United retain an interest in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, though a move appears unlikely given the historical reluctance of both clubs to conduct business with one another. Ben Jacobs indicated that Gakpo has not expressed a desire to leave Liverpool, and the club are currently calm about the situation, though Tottenham Hotspur could emerge as a potential suitor if Gakpo were to request a transfer. The potential arrivals of Mora or Nmecha would add further depth to Liverpool’s midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
