Inter Milan are evaluating a range of players to fill the right-back position currently held by Denzel Dumfries, according to reports from Italy. The Nerazzurri have experienced setbacks in their initial pursuit of replacements, with Chelsea’s intervention scuppering a deal for Alessandro Palestra and Khalaili failing to receive sporting clearance from the Italian Olympic Committee.
Despite these disappointments, Inter’s technical director Piero Ausilio is set to join the team’s training camp in Germany tomorrow, replacing Dario Baccin, to further assess potential targets alongside assistant coach Cristian Chivu. Djed Spence, currently at Genoa, remains a primary target, with English sources indicating the club would consider offers for the former player. Spence’s valuation has reportedly risen following a strong performance at the recent World Cup, and Inter would likely need to offer at least €35-40 million to secure his signature.
However, Spence’s lack of goal contributions – zero goals and key passes in his last season with Tottenham Hotspur – is a concern for Chivu, who is seeking a more dynamic player capable of providing both defensive solidity and attacking threat. As a result, Inter are also considering Givairo Read of Feyenoord as a potential alternative. Read is viewed as a promising prospect reminiscent of Dumfries when he was first signed from the Dutch league, though he would also require time to adapt to the Serie A.
Other names under consideration include Guela Doué of Strasbourg, who would command a fee of around €40 million, and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, though Chivu is reportedly less enthusiastic about the latter. Rafik Belghali, offered by recently relegated Verona, is also being evaluated, but his recent demotion may be a detriment to his prospects. Inter are also looking at Vanderson of Monaco, who is valued at around €30 million, as a potential long-term investment.
The club is prioritizing finding a player who can consistently deliver offensively, creating numerical advantages, beating defenders, scoring goals, and providing assists, a profile that Spence currently doesn’t fully meet. The search for Dumfries’ successor continues as Inter look to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
