Inter are once again pursuing Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy, according to reports in Italy. The potential move comes as Denzel Dumfries is nearing a transfer to Real Madrid, creating a vacancy in the Inter squad.
Norton-Cuffy, a young English full-back, was previously a target for Inter in January when Dumfries was linked with a move to Liverpool. An agreement between the clubs and the player was reportedly close, but the deal ultimately collapsed when Dumfries remained at Inter. Now, with Dumfries expected to depart, Inter have renewed their interest in the 20-year-old.
Norton-Cuffy joined Genoa from Arsenal for a reported fee of €2 million plus add-ons, with a percentage of any future sale included in the deal. He has demonstrated promising form for Genoa, showcasing the potential to adapt to Inter’s 3-5-2 system. Inter’s sporting director, Marco Ottolini, previously scouted Norton-Cuffy during his time at Genoa and is reportedly keen to bring him to Turin with Juventus.
However, Inter face significant competition for Norton-Cuffy’s signature. Juventus, Napoli, and Fiorentina are also monitoring the player. Juventus, in particular, are keen, with Ottolini familiar with his qualities. Napoli are seeking a replacement for Giovanni Di Lorenzo, while Fiorentina are considering options ahead of Dodô’s contract expiration. A fee in the region of €18-20 million is expected to be sufficient to secure Norton-Cuffy, but the race is expected to be competitive. Inter will need to act quickly and decisively to secure the player.
Inter currently have limited options at right-back, with only Luis Henrique and Diouf available, both of whom are naturally suited to different positions. Securing Norton-Cuffy would provide a specialist in that role and add depth to the squad.
