Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Mathis Jangéal has completed a permanent transfer to Portuguese Primeira Liga side Futebol Clube de Famalicao, the club announced on Saturday. The 18-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Famalicao, departing his boyhood club after a breakthrough season.
Jangéal, who turned 18 on June 24th, progressed through the Paris Saint-Germain academy and recently earned his first professional minutes with the club. He also played a key role in PSG’s youth success, winning both the Coupe Gambardella and the Championnat U19 title this past season. According to L’Équipe, the move represents a significant step for the young player to gain regular first-team football.
Upon signing, Jangéal expressed his long-held desire to play in the Portuguese league, stating he had been impressed by the competition and was drawn to Famalicao’s ambition. “I have watched several matches of the Portuguese Championship and I have always dreamed of playing there,” he said. “As soon as I heard about the interest of Futebol Clube de Famalicao, I was seduced by the idea of representing a club that has projected itself in a fantastic way at the national and international level.”
Famalicao has become a noted destination for young French talent, with Oumar Camara having made a similar move from PSG to the Portuguese club last year. Camara subsequently enjoyed a successful season in Portugal, featuring in 30 league matches and scoring five goals. Jangéal will hope to follow a similar trajectory and establish himself as a key player for Famalicao. This transfer allows PSG to trim their youth ranks while Jangéal gains valuable experience in a competitive European league.
Famalicao’s willingness to invest in promising young players suggests they see Jangéal as a potential long-term asset, capable of contributing to their continued growth within the Primeira Liga.
