Liverpool’s new manager Andoni Iraola intends to integrate Harvey Elliott back into the first team squad next season, while also offering Stefan Bajcetic an opportunity to impress during pre-season training. This comes as Liverpool have rejected a third bid from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones.
Elliott spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, though the Villains did not meet the criteria to trigger a permanent transfer, with Unai Emery limiting the attacking midfielder to nine appearances. Iraola has spoken to Elliott upon his return, noting the player’s eagerness to re-establish himself at Anfield. “Definitely Harvey is here with us,” Iraola stated on Liverpool’s official website. “He has come with this eagerness of showing himself, getting himself ready again. He will have a chance during pre-season.”
Alongside Elliott, Iraola is also keen to assess Bajcetic, a 21-year-old Spaniard capable of playing in midfield or at centre-back. Journalist Matteo Moretto reports that several Spanish clubs, including Rayo Vallecano and Getafe, are interested in Bajcetic, but Iraola wants to evaluate him in training first. A strong pre-season showing could lead to a contract renewal for the player, while a lack of progress may open the door for a return to Spain.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have firmly rejected Inter Milan’s latest offer for Curtis Jones. Inter have submitted three bids, the most recent being valued at €32 million, but Liverpool are holding firm, seeking a fee in excess of €40 million for the midfielder. According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool considered Inter’s initial €25 million bid “derisory” and have dismissed subsequent offers. Jones remains a key asset for Liverpool unless their valuation is met.
These developments suggest a strengthening of resolve from Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, in response to Inter’s pursuit of Jones, while Iraola appears intent on providing opportunities for players returning to the club. The situation with Jones could dictate further midfield activity for Liverpool this summer.
