Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has informed the club of his desire to leave Anfield this summer, with Nottingham Forest emerging as potential suitors following their recent sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. The news was initially reported by the Daily Mail’s Merseyside correspondent, Lewis Steele, during an appearance on the Anfield Index podcast.
Jones, a product of Liverpool’s academy, has become increasingly peripheral to the first team, with just one year remaining on his current contract. The potential departure of the last remaining Scouser in Liverpool’s squad coincides with a period of transition for the club under a new manager, with Andoni Iraola expected to implement a more energetic style of play.
Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen to sign Jones as a replacement for Anderson, who completed a British record transfer to City for £116 million. Inter Milan have also previously expressed interest, submitting offers of up to £21 million, which were both rejected by Liverpool. According to Steele, Liverpool are seeking a fee in the region of £35-40 million for the 23-year-old.
While Inter Milan remain admirers of Jones and view him as a priority target, they are unwilling to meet Liverpool’s valuation. Sources indicate the Serie A champions are prepared to withdraw from negotiations if the Reds do not lower their demands. Despite this impasse, talks are ongoing, with representatives from both clubs maintaining regular contact in an attempt to find a compromise. Jones himself is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Inter, viewing the move as a positive step in his career.
Liverpool, however, are not under pressure to sell and believe their asking price is justified, particularly in light of the inflated midfielder fees currently being seen in the Premier League. The club will likely point to Anderson’s recent move as evidence of the current market value. Despite the situation surrounding his contract, Liverpool are confident in their valuation and are prepared to hold firm.
