Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Joao Palhinha, currently under contract with Bayern Munich, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola. Palhinha spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where he impressed despite a difficult campaign for the club that narrowly avoided relegation.
Tottenham opted not to trigger the option to buy Palhinha following their significant investment in Sandro Tonali, leaving the 31-year-old midfielder available once more. The Portuguese international has two years remaining on his contract with Bayern, but his future in Bavaria appears uncertain as the German club explores alternative options. Italian rivals Milan have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Palhinha is described as a physically imposing midfielder, standing at 1.90 meters, offering a similar profile to Nemanja Matic, though significantly younger. He previously enjoyed a successful spell in Serie A with Sassuolo, demonstrating his adaptability to the Italian league. Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is seeking to add experience and international quality to his midfield options, and Palhinha is viewed as a player who could immediately contribute to those goals.
The potential deal could take the form of an expensive loan, similar to the arrangement that brought Palhinha to Tottenham last summer. Juventus are also considering other midfield targets, including Franck Kessie and Leon Goretzka, but are prioritizing potential sales to free up funds and space in the squad. Khephren Thuram is among the players Juventus could look to sell, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested, though no concrete offers have yet materialized. Securing Palhinha would bolster Juventus’s midfield options and provide a proven performer for their Champions League campaign.
