Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid, according to Marca. The potential deal is contingent on the departure of Andrea Cambiaso, who has attracted interest from Barcelona, though a move to Como appears to have cooled.
Ruggeri arrived at Atletico Madrid last summer and featured prominently for the Spanish side, making 47 appearances across all competitions and providing seven assists. He particularly impressed during the Champions League quarter-final ties against Barcelona, effectively containing Lamine Yamal and contributing to Atletico’s progression to the semi-finals. Despite his positive impact, Ruggeri’s future at the club is uncertain as Atletico Madrid are pursuing Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
Should Atletico Madrid successfully acquire Cucurella, they may be willing to let Ruggeri leave, valuing him between €20-25 million. This could facilitate a swift return to Serie A for the 23-year-old, just one year after departing Atalanta. Juventus are considered capable of meeting both the transfer fee and Ruggeri’s salary, which is slightly over €2 million plus bonuses. Ongoing negotiations between the two clubs regarding other players further complicate the situation.
Roma have also expressed interest in Ruggeri, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini keen to reunite with the player he previously managed at Atalanta. During his time in Bergamo, Ruggeri made 109 appearances, scoring twice and providing ten assists, and was part of the squad that won the Europa League in the 2023/24 season under Gasperini. A potential move to Roma could see the two reunite, adding another dimension to the competition for Ruggeri’s signature.
