Juventus youth prospect Davide Marchisio trains with first team
Juventus youth team midfielder Davide Marchisio, the 16-year-old son of club legend Claudio Marchisio, has been rewarded for his fine form with a training session alongside the senior squad. The promising teenager, who turns 17 later this year, joined first-team training on April 4 following a standout season with the club's Under-17 side.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the call-up was a gesture from head coach Luciano Spalletti, acknowledging Marchisio's contributions at youth level. Operating primarily in central midfield, he has registered two goals and three assists in 20 appearances for Juventus Under-17 this campaign. This follows a title-winning season with the Under-16 team last year.
Davide Marchisio has been part of the Juventus youth system since 2015, steadily progressing through the ranks. Observers close to the club have noted the striking similarities between his style of play and that of his father. Antonio Marchio, a former Juventus player and scout, told the Italian newspaper that the technical resemblance is remarkable, from his running style to his touch on the ball.
While his father made his senior debut at 20 in 2006, the younger Marchisio's path remains focused on continued development. He is expected to complete the season with the Under-17s before potential steps up to the Primavera (Under-19) team or the Juventus Next Gen squad, which competes in Italy's third tier. The training experience is seen as a significant motivational step in that long-term pathway.
For Juventus, integrating top academy talents with the first-team environment is a key part of the club's strategy. This move follows a pattern of giving promising youngsters a taste of senior football, even if a professional debut is not imminent. It underscores the club's faith in Marchisio's potential as he continues to hone his skills across multiple midfield roles, having played as an attacking midfielder, a deep-lying playmaker, and a box-to-box player during his youth career.
The brief promotion serves as a notable milestone for the player and a positive signal regarding his standing within the club's hierarchy. His immediate future, however, remains firmly within the youth setup as he works to bridge the considerable gap between youth football and Serie A.
