Juventus are carefully considering options to reshape their defensive line, with Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi emerging as a primary target, according to reports in Italy. The club is prioritizing clarity on potential outgoings, including Lloyd Kelly, whose performances have reportedly frustrated coach Lucio in build-up play.
Kelly is believed to have interest from Premier League clubs, and his sale could generate funds for a more established central defender. Lucumi is reportedly Luciano Spalletti’s preferred replacement, despite a recent on-field incident with Bologna’s Chico Fortuna, which has not appeared to affect the coach’s assessment of the player. Spalletti and Lucumi were seen embracing before a recent international match between Colombia and Portugal.
However, any deal hinges on Juventus’s ability to negotiate a fee with Bologna, who are currently demanding €28 million – the value of Lucumi’s release clause until July 15th. Juventus are attempting to lower this price, but face competition from Inter for the Colombian’s signature. As a result, they are also exploring alternative options, including Tarik Muharemovic of Sassuolo.
Sassuolo are reportedly seeking €40 million for Muharemovic, a figure Juventus currently deem too high. The club would receive approximately €20 million from a potential sale due to a sell-on clause. To potentially facilitate a deal, Juventus are considering offering young forward Jeff Ekhator as part of a loan arrangement, a move that would allow the player to gain valuable experience. Juventus’s plans for Ekhator are also contingent on the futures of other attacking players, David and Openda.
If both David and Openda depart, Spalletti would welcome Ekhator as a third striking option. However, if David remains at the club, Ekhator is likely to be loaned elsewhere.
