Brahim Diaz has stated his intention to remain at Real Madrid, effectively ending Juventus’ pursuit of the Moroccan international, according to reports from TuttoSport. The 24-year-old expressed his desire to return to the Spanish capital and work under new manager Jose Mourinho following Morocco’s recent World Cup campaign.
Juventus had identified Diaz as a key target to bolster their attacking options, particularly in the trequarti role, as highlighted by manager Luciano Spalletti’s comments earlier in the year regarding a lack of quality in that position. His performances for Morocco at the World Cup were seen as confirmation of his consistent growth, despite limited playing time with Real Madrid. The club believed Diaz could bring a new level of creativity and attacking threat to the team.
Diaz joined Real Madrid in 2019 from Manchester City, but has often found himself on the periphery of the first team. He spent the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons on loan at AC Milan, where he impressed with his dribbling skills and eye for goal, contributing significantly to their Serie A title win in 2022. However, upon his return to Madrid, he continued to struggle for consistent starts.
The player’s public declaration of his commitment to Real Madrid, coupled with the club’s apparent reluctance to sell, presents a significant setback for Juventus. There was some hope in Turin that increased competition for places at Real Madrid, particularly if young player Nico Paz had been sold to Como, might have opened the door for a potential transfer. However, with Diaz now reaffirming his desire to stay, Juventus will be forced to explore alternative targets to strengthen their midfield.
Juventus will now need to reassess their options and identify other players who can fill the creative void. The club will likely focus on finding a player who can provide similar qualities in terms of dribbling, passing, and goal-scoring ability. This development underscores the challenges of navigating the transfer market and the importance of player willingness when pursuing targets.
