Juventus have identified Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as their primary target to strengthen their goalkeeping position ahead of next season, according to reports in Italy. The club had initially pursued Alisson Becker, but Liverpool have ruled out a sale following departures from their squad.
Juventus are seeking an experienced goalkeeper following perceived difficulties with current option Michele Di Gregorio. Initial alternatives included Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, but both presented complications. Martinez’s wage demands, reportedly between €6-7 million net per year, exceeded Juventus’s established salary cap, which is currently set by Kenan Yildiz’s contract. Maignan, tied to a long and expensive contract with Milan, would also represent a significant financial investment.
Vicario, 30, has reportedly expressed a desire to return to Serie A, having previously played for Empoli. He was initially linked with Inter, but their decision to retain Josep Martinez has opened the door for Juventus. The report indicates that Juventus now face no direct competition for the player’s signature.
Tottenham are open to a sale, as Vicario’s contract does not expire until 2028, but they are not expected to demand an excessive transfer fee. Juventus anticipate a transfer fee of around €20 million. Crucially, Vicario’s wage expectations, estimated between €3-4 million per year, align with Juventus’s budgetary constraints. The club views the pursuit of Vicario as a more focused and defined objective in their search for a new number one.
