VfL Bochum are set to sign Yigit Karademir from VfL Osnabrück when his contract expires, according to reports from WAZ. The 22-year-old central defender will move to the Bundesliga side on a free transfer, bolstering their defensive options ahead of the new season.
Karademir’s current deal with Osnabrück is due to expire this summer, meaning Bochum will not have to pay a transfer fee for the Turkish U-20 international. The Rhurpott club have been proactive in the transfer window, and Karademir represents their fifth free acquisition of the summer, joining Jean Manuel Mbom, Enis Cokaj, Daniel Hanslik and Berkan Taz.
Last season, Karademir played a part in Osnabrück’s successful 3.Liga campaign, making 17 appearances as the Lower Saxony club secured promotion to the 2.Bundesliga. Despite contributing to the title win, he wasn’t a consistent starter for Osnabrück, and the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga with Bochum appears to be a significant step forward in his career.
Bochum finished 15th in the Bundesliga last season, narrowly avoiding relegation. Strengthening their defensive options will be a priority for manager Thomas Letsch as he looks to establish the club as a stable Bundesliga side. Karademir will provide competition for places in the centre of defence and offer versatility to the squad. He has signed a three-year contract with Bochum, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029.
The move provides Karademir with the chance to prove himself at the highest level of German football, while Bochum secure a promising young defender without incurring a transfer fee. This transfer represents a shrewd piece of business for both clubs, offering a platform for the player to develop and a valuable addition to the Bochum squad.
