Karlsruhe SC have announced the appointment of Maximilian Senft as their new head coach, with the 36-year-old joining from Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried. The move sees Senft step into a new role after a successful period with Ried, where he progressed through the coaching ranks.
Senft initially joined SV Ried in 2022, beginning his tenure with the club’s reserve team before obtaining his UEFA Pro License. He was then promoted to first team manager in March 2023, overseeing a period of significant achievement for the Austrian club. Senft guided Ried to the Austrian second division title and subsequent promotion to the Bundesliga for the 2024-25 season.
Currently, Senft is still with Ried as they compete for a Conference League qualification spot through a playoff against Rapid Wien. Despite this ongoing campaign, he has agreed to take the reins at Karlsruhe, a club currently competing in the 2.Bundesliga, the second tier of German football. The club confirmed the appointment on their official channels.
Karlsruhe’s managing director of sport, Mario Eggimann, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment, stating that Senft “is an excellent fit for Karlsruher SC in terms of his sporting ability, his personality, and his working style.” Eggimann also highlighted Senft’s ability to combine “modern training methods, clear development, and proactive football” as key reasons for his selection. He further praised Senft’s capacity to build something “sustainable” at Ried, achieving both immediate success and long-term stability.
Senft’s appointment represents a strategic move for Karlsruhe, who are looking to build on their existing framework with a coach known for developing players and implementing a progressive style of play. The move provides Senft with an opportunity to test his abilities in a competitive European league and further his managerial career. The appointment signals Karlsruhe’s ambition to challenge for promotion to the Bundesliga in the coming seasons.
