Como manager Cesc Fabregas has firmly refuted suggestions that Nico Paz will join Inter, responding to comments made by Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti. Zanetti recently expressed his admiration for Paz, stating on Argentinian radio that he hoped to see the player in an Inter shirt, despite anticipating a return to Real Madrid.
Fabregas addressed the situation directly, stating that Paz will not be playing for Inter. He emphasized the ownership structure of the player, clarifying that Como co-owns Paz with Real Madrid, and therefore holds primary say in his future. Fabregas also pointedly suggested that Zanetti’s position does not grant him authority over transfer decisions, referencing the roles of Inter sporting directors Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin.
“Zanetti is a very important person in football, he knows the dynamics well,” Fabregas stated, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport. “I know Ausilio and Baccin well, I know they are the ones who make the decisions. Ultimately, Nico Paz is 50% our player, but he is ours. The only club that can say something is Real Madrid. I know Zanetti doesn't work for Madrid and Como, so you have to show respect.”
Fabregas also alluded to unwelcome communication from the Inter camp, describing “small messages” that he found disagreeable. He reiterated that Paz’s options are limited to either returning to Real Madrid or continuing with Como next season. The Como manager indicated Paz is currently being assessed for fitness ahead of a Serie A match this weekend, highlighting his contributions to the team. He expects a decision regarding Paz’s long-term future within the next four to five weeks.
Paz, a young midfielder, has impressed during his time with Como, demonstrating quality that has attracted attention from larger clubs. He originally joined Como on loan from Real Madrid, with the Italian club holding a co-ownership agreement. Zanetti’s comments sparked speculation about a potential move to Inter, given his personal connection to Paz’s father, with whom he roomed during the 1998 World Cup. Fabregas’s strong response effectively closes the door on an immediate transfer to Inter, leaving Real Madrid or Como as the likely destinations for the promising player.
