Como manager Cesc Fabregas has addressed the future of Nico Paz, stating the young player will either remain with Como next season or return to his parent club, Real Madrid, ruling out a potential move to Inter. Fabregas made the comments during a press conference ahead of Como’s crucial Serie A match against Cremonese on Sunday.
Fabregas expressed frustration with suggestions of a deal with Inter, particularly referencing comments made by Inter executive Dario Zanetti. He stated a lack of respect was shown in linking Paz with a move to the Nerazzurri, emphasizing that Como holds a 50% ownership of the player and that any decisions ultimately rest with Real Madrid. He confirmed the club is attempting to secure Paz’s services for another season.
The Como manager also provided an update on Paz’s fitness, noting he is currently not at 100% but could be involved against Cremonese. Fabregas jokingly suggested he was trying to avoid potentially jeopardizing Paz’s chances of selection for the Argentina national team, hinting at the player’s importance to the squad. Paz has been a valuable contributor for Como, despite his recent fitness concerns.
Fabregas stressed the importance of Sunday’s match against Cremonese, describing it as a “game of the season.” He acknowledged the pressure to win but emphasized the need for a strong performance and maintaining belief in their chances of securing a Champions League spot. He highlighted Como’s impressive statistics, particularly their defensive record in the second half of the season, conceding only 12 goals. Fabregas also spoke about the importance of team spirit and the positive atmosphere within the club, crediting the ownership and staff for fostering a strong sense of unity. He also noted the disappointment of playing without fans due to security concerns, lamenting the lack of atmosphere for what could be a historic match.
