Juventus are weighing a move for defender John Stones, who recently left Manchester City as a free agent, according to reports from Turin. The club is seeking to overhaul its defensive options ahead of the new season and sees Stones as a potential addition alongside Tarik Muharemovic.
The interest in Stones comes as Juventus assesses its options following the conclusion of the Serie A campaign. The Bianconeri are looking for players who can bring both experience and a consistent presence to the backline, something that was lacking at times last season. While the potential departure of Gleison Bremer is not currently driving the search, the club is preparing for multiple scenarios.
Stones, 29, spent a decade at Manchester City, winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League. He has a wealth of experience, having made 295 Premier League appearances and 62 appearances in the Champions League, as well as earning 88 caps for England. His pedigree would undoubtedly add leadership to the Juventus defense.
However, concerns remain regarding Stones’ recent fitness. He featured in only nine Premier League matches last season due to thigh and calf injuries. Juventus officials are carefully considering these injury issues as they evaluate whether he can provide reliable cover and contribute consistently under coach Luciano Spalletti. Despite being a free transfer, the club wants to ensure any addition can compete for a starting role.
Juventus are also considering Muharemovic as an alternative, and have reportedly scouted Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich and Jhon Lucumi of Bologna. The club is evaluating whether to bring in a familiar face in Muharemovic or opt for the tactical experience Stones offers. Bremer’s future remains uncertain, with the Brazilian defender currently at the Copa America, and his desire to compete at the highest level potentially leading to a transfer.
