Juventus are currently in negotiations with Atlético Madrid regarding the permanent transfer of winger Nico González, but an agreement has yet to be reached due to a difference in valuation. According to reports from Tuttosport, Juventus are seeking a fee of at least €27-28 million for the Argentinian, while Atlético are pushing for a significant discount, requesting a price reduction of €7-8 million from the initially agreed upon €32 million.
González has spent the current season on loan at Atlético, where he has impressed under manager Diego Simeone. The 28-year-old is reportedly keen to remain in Madrid, having rediscovered a level of happiness not felt since his time at Fiorentina. Simeone has successfully integrated González into his system, maximizing the player’s strengths, and the winger is appreciative of the coach’s faith in him.
Juventus, however, are prioritizing financial stability and are reluctant to significantly depreciate González’s value. The club is aiming to generate a small profit from the sale, as the player is currently valued at €21 million on their balance sheet. This need for a ‘plusvalenza’ – a positive difference between purchase and sale price – is driving their firm stance in negotiations.
Adding complexity to the situation, Atlético are also strategically delaying a decision on González to monitor the performance of Alexander Sorloth at the World Cup. They believe that a strong showing from the striker could inflate his market value, influencing their overall transfer strategy. The club is aware that player valuations can change rapidly based on performances in major tournaments, as evidenced by the recent surge in interest in Crysencio Summerville after a strong debut for the Netherlands.
Despite Luciano Spalletti’s admiration for González and his desire to have the player in his squad, Juventus are prioritizing the financial outcome of the transfer. A return to Turin for González is not entirely off the table, but would only occur if Atlético fail to meet their asking price.
