Juventus are continuing their pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but a recent hand injury to the Argentinian international has introduced a new complication to potential negotiations. According to reports from Tuttosport’s ‘TuttoChiaro’ program, Juventus have already reached an agreement with Martinez, who is open to a move to Serie A.
The primary obstacle now lies in agreeing a fee with Aston Villa, who are reportedly holding out for a minimum of €10 million. Juventus are hoping to secure the 31-year-old for between €5-6 million, and have tasked Martinez’s representatives with persuading Villa to accept a deal, referencing a previous understanding that the goalkeeper would be allowed to leave for the right price.
However, Martinez’s recent return of hand pain, sustained during the World Cup, has cast a shadow over the transfer. The severity of the injury is currently being assessed, with a potential operation a possibility, which could impact Juventus’s willingness to proceed. The club have reportedly been sounding out alternatives, including Anatoliy Trubin of Benfica, who was also a target for Inter, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario, a long-standing target for the Juventus board. Chelsea’s Filip Jørgensen is also being considered.
In separate transfer news, a potential swap deal involving Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic and Roma’s Artem Dovbyk was reportedly discussed in August 2023, but ultimately failed to materialize. Vlahovic reportedly rejected the move, not viewing Roma as a step forward in his career. The Serbian’s contract with Juventus is set to expire in 2026, leaving his long-term future uncertain. Napoli are also considering a move for Juventus defender Federico Gatti following an injury to Alessandro Bastoni, while Como are reportedly interested in signing Moise Kean from Fiorentina.
