Juventus have initiated discussions with Genoa regarding a potential transfer for forward Jeff Ekhator, who currently represents Italy at the Under 21 level. The talks involve a possible exchange deal, with Juventus offering David Puczka, a defender from their Next Gen squad, and potentially a more established player in return. Genoa are reportedly eager to finalize a deal quickly due to their own financial considerations.
The move comes as Juventus seek to generate a capital gain of €13 million before the end of the financial year on June 30th. Negotiations with Bologna for midfielder Fabio Miretti have stalled, reportedly due to disagreements over a linked sale of defender Juan Lucumì. Juventus had requested €15 million for Miretti, but Bologna were only willing to meet that figure contingent on selling Lucumì for close to his €28 million release clause, a condition Juventus found unacceptable.
According to reports, Genoa also enquired about Juventus defender Cabal, but the player has not expressed interest in a move. It is anticipated that further discussions may involve other players from the Juventus first team who are not in coach Luciano Spalletti’s plans, or additional prospects from the Next Gen side. Both clubs are motivated by the accounting benefits of a transfer, as revenue from a sale is immediately recognized, while the cost of an acquisition can be spread over a longer period.
Juventus are also continuing to pursue Sassuolo’s Hamza Muharemovic, holding a 50% sell-on clause for the player. The situation with Miretti remains open for future discussion, but is unlikely to be resolved in time to meet Juventus’ immediate financial targets. A successful transfer for Ekhator would provide the club with the necessary capital gain, while simultaneously bolstering their attacking options.
