Hamburger SV have announced the signing of Kofi Amoako from SG Dynamo Dresden, securing the Germany U-20 international as their first addition ahead of the 2026/27 season. The defensive midfielder joins the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal, bringing with him experience from a promising season in the second tier.
Amoako made 33 appearances across all competitions for Dresden during the 2025/26 campaign, contributing one goal and one assist. The 20-year-old’s move to Hamburg represents a step up in his career, having previously developed through the youth ranks at VfL Wolfsburg. He spent a year on loan at VfL Osnabrück in the 3. Liga, gaining valuable first-team experience before establishing himself at Dresden.
Sporting director Claus Costa highlighted Amoako’s attributes as key to the club’s decision to pursue him. According to Costa, the player’s “mix of physicality and athleticism, his strength in tackles, and his intensity off the ball fit perfectly with our playing style.” Costa also noted Amoako’s technical ability and tactical versatility, expressing confidence in his potential for further development.
The Hannover native initially showed promise within the Wolfsburg academy, but sought more consistent playing time through the loan spell at Osnabrück. His performances for Dresden subsequently caught the attention of several Bundesliga clubs, with Hamburger SV ultimately winning the race for his signature. The transfer signifies HSV’s commitment to building a competitive squad capable of challenging in the top flight.
Amoako’s arrival provides additional depth and steel in the midfield for Hamburg, potentially allowing for tactical flexibility and increased competition for places. The signing could prove crucial as the club aims to consolidate its position in the Bundesliga and push for European qualification in the coming seasons.
