Diego Pugno is set to leave Juventus and join Ajax in a loan deal with an option to buy, according to reports from Nicolò Schira. The move represents a significant step in the career of the 2006-born forward, who has shown promising development within the Juventus youth system.
The agreement between Ajax and Juventus is for a loan with an option to purchase Pugno for €1.2 million. Should Ajax exercise the option, the Italian striker will sign a contract with the Dutch club through 2031 – a seasonal loan plus a four-year deal. Final details are currently being formalized before the transfer is officially announced.
Pugno’s progress has been particularly notable this past season. Initially excelling with Juventus Primavera, where he consistently found the back of the net, he earned a promotion to Juventus Next Gen, demonstrating his ability to compete at a professional level. Across both Primavera and Next Gen competitions, Pugno scored eight goals in 22 appearances overall, showcasing his potential and readiness for a new challenge.
The transfer to Ajax provides Pugno with an opportunity to develop within another renowned academy known for nurturing young talent. The move could provide valuable experience in a different footballing culture and a higher level of competition. Juventus will hope that Pugno’s development in the Eredivisie continues positively, though the option to buy introduces the possibility that he may not return to Turin. This transfer highlights Ajax’s continued focus on identifying and developing promising young players from across Europe.
