Borussia Dortmund have submitted a bid of €12 million, plus up to €5 million in add-ons, for FC Alverca centre-back Bastien Meupiyou, according to reports from Portuguese newspaper Record and transfer journalist Sebastião Sousa-Pinto. The offer represents Dortmund’s initial attempt to secure the 20-year-old French defender, who has been monitored by the German club since January.
Meupiyou joined Alverca last summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Wolves retain a 50 percent sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they are set to receive half of any transfer fee. Despite holding a buyback clause themselves, sources indicate Wolverhampton Wanderers are not planning to re-sign the player, content to benefit financially from his potential move to the Bundesliga. This would allow Dortmund to potentially acquire Meupiyou for a total package of up to €17 million, depending on performance-based bonuses.
During the recently concluded 2025/26 season, Meupiyou established himself as a regular in the Alverca squad, making 32 appearances across all competitions. His performances have reportedly attracted the attention of several European clubs, but Dortmund have moved quickly to present a concrete offer. The move aligns with Dortmund’s strategy of investing in young, promising talent, a model that has served them well in recent years.
Should the transfer be completed, Meupiyou would become Borussia Dortmund’s second central defensive addition of the summer, joining Joane Gadou who arrived from RB Salzburg. This influx of new defenders comes as Dortmund look to reinforce their backline ahead of the upcoming season, following a campaign where defensive vulnerabilities were occasionally exposed. The arrival of Meupiyou and Gadou suggests a long-term plan to build a solid defensive foundation for the future.
