Ligue 1 side Le Havre have announced the signing of defender Vincent Sasso on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Monday. The arrival of the 35-year-old follows closely on from the departure of Yassine Kechta, and sees Sasso reunite with Demba Ba, Le Havre’s recently appointed sporting director, with whom he played at USL Dunkerque in Ligue 2 for the past two seasons.
Sasso has been allocated the number 23 shirt, though the length of his contract has not been disclosed. Le Havre described Sasso as an “experienced central defender” who has performed at a high level in numerous European championships throughout his career, praising his intelligence and game awareness.
Sasso’s career began with spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Nantes before he embarked on a decade-long period playing abroad. He spent three years at Braga in Portugal, followed by two years with Sheffield United – including a loan spell – and three years at Servette FC in Switzerland. Most recently, he played two seasons for Boavista until 2024 before joining Dunkerque.
The move represents Sasso’s first opportunity to play in Ligue 1, despite his extensive experience in other European leagues. His arrival adds much-needed experience to Le Havre’s defensive options as they look to establish themselves in the French top flight. The signing of Sasso is expected to provide competition for places and strengthen the team’s overall defensive stability.
