Milan have completed the signing of Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth up to €80 million, the club confirmed. The transfer represents a club-record fee for the Rossoneri, surpassing previous spending benchmarks and signalling a clear statement of intent ahead of the new season.
The move for Ramos comes as a boost for incoming manager Paulo Amorim, who is expected to arrive in Milan next week. Amorim will be able to build his attack around the 25-year-old, reportedly favouring a 3-4-2-1 formation with Ramos leading the line. The investment signifies a shift in Milan’s transfer strategy, prioritising a high-profile number nine after previous windows saw more modest options pursued, such as Alvaro Morata and Füllkrug.
Ramos joined Paris Saint-Germain from Benfica for €65 million in 2023, but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Luis Enrique. Despite limited playing time, he still managed to contribute a respectable goal tally, scoring 45 goals in 131 appearances for the French champions, including five in Champions League matches. He was part of a PSG side that won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, though often found himself behind Kylian Mbappé in the pecking order.
Prior to his move to Paris, Ramos enjoyed a breakthrough season with Benfica in 2022-23, netting 27 goals in 47 games. His impressive form earned him a place in Portugal’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar. Amorim will be tasked with unlocking Ramos’s full potential and restoring him to the prolific form he displayed in Lisbon. The Milan manager will focus on building the player’s match fitness and ensuring consistent playing time, aiming for 75-80 minutes per game.
The acquisition of Ramos is intended to address a long-standing need for a reliable goalscorer at the San Siro and to avoid repeating the experiences of previous Portuguese forwards at the club, such as André Silva, who failed to fully deliver on his promise. Milan hope Ramos will emulate the impact of Olivier Giroud and become a key figure in their pursuit of Serie A success.
