Leeds United have reportedly added Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to their transfer shortlist following the departures of Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier, according to Corriere dello Sport. The 49ers-owned club are seeking to reinforce their goalkeeping options after a period of instability in that position.
Last summer, Leeds invested £13.9 million in Lucas Perri from Lyon, but the Brazilian struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter, eventually losing his place to Darlow in January. While Perri redeemed himself with strong performances during the FA Cup semi-final run, doubts remain about his long-term suitability. With both Darlow joining Manchester United and Meslier departing on a free transfer, Leeds are actively pursuing both a first-choice and a backup goalkeeper.
Di Gregorio, 28, is likely to be available this summer after a challenging 2025/26 campaign with Juventus. Tuttosport reports that Leeds have made “very timid enquiries” regarding the former Monza player, who made 37 appearances for the Turin club last season. However, their interest is also influenced by their pursuit of Parma’s Zion Suzuki, who impressed for Japan at the World Cup, although TEAMtalk suggests a move for Suzuki is unlikely.
Di Gregorio recently became the subject of controversy when his agent, Carlo Alberto Belloni, publicly criticised Juventus’ management following a disappointing season for the club. Belloni highlighted perceived imbalances within the squad, arguing that the blame for conceding 34 goals in Serie A should not fall solely on Di Gregorio, especially when compared to Inter Milan’s similar defensive record alongside a significantly more potent attack. Di Gregorio himself later distanced himself from his agent’s comments, expressing respect for his teammates. Despite previous links with Tottenham and Liverpool, those potential moves have cooled, leaving Leeds as a possible destination. The club will need to consider whether the off-field situation with his agent will be a concern should they pursue a deal.
