Manchester United’s pursuit of Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly has hit a snag, with manager Mikel Arteta reportedly unwilling to sanction a sale this summer, according to sources at TEAMtalk. The Red Devils had identified the 19-year-old as a potential long-term solution at left-back, with intermediaries having already discussed a move with Old Trafford officials.
United manager Michael Carrick is aiming to strengthen the left-back position during the summer transfer window, and Lewis-Skelly’s versatility and technical ability had impressed the club’s scouts. However, the player’s recent performances in midfield for Arsenal have altered the situation, making a departure less likely. The Manchester Evening News corroborated reports of United’s initial interest in the England international.
Arsenal manager Arteta is said to highly value Lewis-Skelly and intends to integrate him into the first-team squad for the upcoming season. The club, fresh off a Premier League title win and a Champions League final appearance, are reportedly demanding a fee exceeding £60 million for the teenager, who is currently under contract until 2030 after signing an extension in June 2025. Lewis-Skelly himself expressed his commitment to the club, stating his desire to win trophies and build a lasting legacy at Arsenal.
Last season, Lewis-Skelly made 36 appearances for Arsenal, contributing four assists. While United were also monitoring Newcastle United’s Myles Hall as a potential signing, the emergence of Lewis-Skelly in Arsenal’s midfield has effectively ended their pursuit. The situation highlights Arsenal’s ambition to retain their key talent as they aim to compete for the Premier League title again in the 2026/27 season, while United will need to reassess their options for strengthening the left-back position under Carrick.
