Barcelona's Interest in Victor Munoz Complicated by Real Madrid Clause
Barcelona's search for a new left-winger has reportedly led them to Osasuna's Victor Munoz, but the deal is complicated by a significant clause in his contract. According to reports from Matteo Moretto, the 22-year-old is set to sign with a new agent, Juanma Lopez of Niagara Sports, a move that has caught Barcelona's attention as Lopez was instrumental in the transfers of Joan Garcia and Dani Olmo to the Camp Nou. This has fueled speculation that Barcelona's interest in the former La Masia product is serious, with the club seeking to reinforce their attack this summer.
However, a major obstacle stands in the way of any deal. Real Madrid, who sold Munoz to Osasuna in 2023, retain a 50% sell-on fee and a buyback clause. According to reports, this clause gives Real Madrid significant control, and it is believed they would intervene to block a direct move to their arch-rivals. This leaves Barcelona with a difficult path, as the only way to bypass Madrid's potential veto is to trigger Munoz's release clause, reported to be in the region of €40 million.
Munoz, who came through Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to Real Madrid's youth setup, has been a standout performer for Osasuna. His form has also attracted interest from the Premier League, with Sunderland having a €25 million bid rejected in January. His potential availability has also sparked interest from several Serie A clubs. Barcelona's interest comes as they weigh up their options on the left wing, where they also hold a €30 million buy option for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, whose high wage demands are a point of concern for the Catalan club.
For Barcelona, activating Munoz's release clause is considered unlikely given the club's well-documented financial constraints, which make a €40 million outlay for a single player improbable. The club is simultaneously evaluating other left-wing options, including former academy products like Ez Abde and Ilias Akhomach, as well as Benfica's Andreas Schjelderup. The complexity of the deal, compounded by Real Madrid's contractual influence, makes Munoz a complicated and expensive target for Barcelona this summer.
