Liverpool are reportedly considering a £40 million bid for AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, according to journalist Jamie Dickenson via X. The potential move comes following the appointment of Andoni Iraola as the new Liverpool head coach, with the pair having previously worked together at Bournemouth.
Scott, 22, enjoyed a breakout season with Bournemouth in the 2025/26 campaign, establishing himself as a key player in midfield. He is currently stalling on signing a new contract with the Cherries, though the club remain hopeful of retaining his services. Bournemouth currently value Scott at £60 million, meaning Liverpool may need to increase their initial offer to secure a deal.
Competition for Scott’s signature is expected to be fierce, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also monitoring the situation. However, Scott himself has spoken positively about Iraola’s coaching abilities, suggesting a move to Anfield could be appealing. He described Iraola as a “great manager” and highlighted the aggressive pressing style he implemented at Bournemouth, drawing comparisons to the early years of Jürgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool.
Scott also credited Iraola with significant improvements to his game, both defensively and offensively, and praised the manager for placing his trust in him, leading to 34 full appearances in the Premier League this season. Iraola’s arrival at Liverpool signals a potential shift in playing style, and Scott’s familiarity with the manager’s methods could make him a seamless addition to the squad. Securing Scott would provide Iraola with a player he knows well and could quickly integrate into his system, potentially bolstering Liverpool’s midfield options ahead of the new season.
