Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer as they seek to bolster their defensive options following the confirmed departure of Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman will leave Anfield at the end of his contract after five years with the club, having made 183 appearances and winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
According to Calciomercato, Liverpool have been planning for Konate’s exit for some time and view Bremer as a prime target for new manager Arne Slot. Juventus are reportedly open to selling the 29-year-old to raise funds after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Bremer joined Juventus from Torino in July 2022 and has established himself as a prominent figure in Serie A, known for his aerial ability and occasional goals – he scored four and provided three assists in 26 league games this season. He has also earned six caps for the Brazilian national team.
The report values Bremer at €40 million (£34.5m, $46m), a fee considered within Liverpool’s financial reach. Liverpool are also internally discussing the possibility of re-signing Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen, where he currently plays, having sold him to the German club last year for £35 million with a buy-back clause of €80m (£69m) that activates in 2027. The club reportedly ‘remain huge admirers’ of the 23-year-old’s potential.
Other potential options being considered include Konstantinos Koulierakis, who is available following Wolfsburg’s relegation from the Bundesliga, although he is considered a higher-risk signing. A move for Marcos Senesi ultimately fell through, with the Argentine agreeing to join Tottenham Hotspur. The situation highlights Liverpool’s need to reinforce their central defence, particularly with Virgil van Dijk’s contract also expiring next summer. Securing a suitable replacement for Konate, and potentially planning for Van Dijk’s future, is a key priority for the club this transfer window.
