Liverpool are reportedly considering moves for Chelsea’s Pedro Neto and Manchester City’s Savinho as they continue their search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to journalist Dave Davis appearing on The Transfer Show. The Reds have faced setbacks in their pursuit of primary targets Yan Diomande, who is leaning towards Paris Saint-Germain, and Bradley Barcola.
Neto, who joined Chelsea from Wolves in 2022 for a reported £51.6 million, has been discussed with super-agent Jorge Mendes, with Davis suggesting the player would be receptive to a move to Anfield, having been close to joining the club previously when at Wolves. Davis highlighted Neto’s strengths as a carrier, passer, and crosser, noting his high percentile rankings in those areas.
Liverpool have also enquired about Savinho, currently at Manchester City, though Davis expressed reservations about the Brazilian’s overall contribution. While acknowledging Savinho’s exceptional ball-carrying abilities – ranking in the 99th percentile for progressive carries and field yards gained – Davis questioned his creativity and impact beyond dribbling, pointing out his limited playing time at City this season.
The club recently missed out on signing Bazoumana Traore, with Newcastle United securing a deal with Hoffenheim. The search for a winger has become increasingly urgent following Salah’s departure at the end of last season, where he finished third in Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list. The Egyptian’s departure leaves a significant void in the team’s attacking options.
Davis ultimately expressed doubts about whether either Neto or Savinho represent a significant upgrade for Liverpool, stating they “don’t exactly set your heart racing.” However, with options dwindling, the club appears to be broadening its search, exploring a range of potential targets to bolster their attacking lineup ahead of the new season. This comes after reports linked Liverpool to six new options in recent weeks.
