Liverpool are reportedly open to selling winger Federico Chiesa this summer, with new head coach Andoni Iraola not believed to feature the Italian in his plans. According to reports, the club has informed Chiesa he can leave, following an assessment after taking over from Arne Slot.
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in the 2024 summer transfer window for a fee of around £12.5 million, but has struggled with injuries and limited playing time at Anfield. Slot, the previous manager, was not said to be a strong admirer of the 28-year-old, and that situation appears unlikely to change under Iraola.
The winger has publicly stated his desire to play more regularly, admitting he will “have to look elsewhere” if he isn’t assured of game time. He recently told Gazzetta dello Sport that he barely played in his first year at Liverpool and limited opportunities persisted last season. Following a training camp in the US, he intends to discuss his future with Iraola.
Liverpool are seeking a permanent sale for around €20 million (approximately £17 million), though they may consider a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Serie A clubs Napoli and Como have both been linked with a move for Chiesa, who is reportedly willing to reduce his salary to facilitate a transfer. A source close to the outlet explained that further talks between the club and player are expected during pre-season.
This potential departure comes amid suggestions that as many as nine Liverpool players could leave this summer. Curtis Jones is also nearing a move to Inter Milan, having reportedly agreed to join the Italian side and rejecting interest from other Premier League clubs. The sale of Chiesa would free up funds and squad space for Iraola as he begins to reshape the Liverpool team.
