Juventus are preparing to offer goalkeeper Giovanni Daffara a contract extension until 2030, according to reports in Italy. The move comes after a successful season for Daffara at Avellino in Serie B, where his performances earned him a call-up to the Italy Under-21 squad and subsequently a place in the senior national team for friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
Juventus have been closely monitoring Daffara’s development since his breakthrough season, recognizing his potential as a future first-team option. While a contract extension is planned, the club also anticipates a loan move to a Serie A side to continue his progression. Juventus are keen to retain control of the player’s future, structuring any potential deal with a loan and both a right and counter-right of redemption.
Udinese have already initiated contact regarding a loan for the 2004-born goalkeeper, but Lecce and Cagliari are also potential destinations. Both clubs could enter the race should their current goalkeepers, Wladimiro Falcone and Boris Caprile, respectively, depart this summer. Daffara has reportedly attracted interest from six clubs already, but a return to Serie B appears unlikely given Juventus’ plans.
Daffara’s impressive form for Avellino saw him establish himself as a key player in the second tier, making a significant number of saves throughout the campaign. This form prompted national team recognition, underlining his growing reputation within Italian football. The planned loan move to Serie A represents an opportunity for Daffara to test himself at a higher level and gain valuable experience. This move will likely provide him with consistent playing time, crucial for his ongoing development as a professional goalkeeper.
The extension and loan strategy suggests Juventus view Daffara as a long-term prospect, prioritizing his development while ensuring they maintain control over his future. A successful loan spell in Serie A could pave the way for Daffara to eventually challenge for a starting role at Juventus.
