Liverpool will not entertain offers for Cody Gakpo this summer, effectively ending Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the Dutch forward, according to a report by talkSPORT. The news comes as Roberto De Zerbi seeks to bolster his attacking options at Tottenham following a series of improvements to their defence and midfield.
Gakpo experienced a dip in form during the 2025-26 season, scoring nine goals in 52 matches, a decrease from his 18 goals the previous year. However, the forward impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup, registering three goals and one assist before their round-of-32 exit.
The 27-year-old will return to Liverpool for pre-season training under new manager Andoni Iraola, despite speculation linking him with a move away from Anfield. Sources indicate Liverpool are instead looking to add to their wide options, rather than diminish them.
While Liverpool were previously rumoured to consider a £70m bid for Gakpo, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reports the club are now firm in their decision to retain him. The club are also pursuing Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, although the French club are currently unwilling to sell.
Tottenham are now expected to focus on alternative winger targets, including Rafael Leao of AC Milan, Savinho of Manchester City, and Antonio Nusa of RB Leipzig. Leao has reportedly agreed to a move to Spurs, with a price tag of around £43m, while Spurs are also competing with Arsenal for Nusa, who is valued at £51m. The club are also monitoring Barcola, despite Liverpool’s renewed interest.
