The moves represent the first significant transfer activity under new sporting director Richard Hughes as Arne Slot looks to reshape the squad following a disappointing campaign where the team currently sits fifth in the Premier League.
Liverpool invested heavily in the transfer market last summer, but the midfield has been a consistent area of concern, prompting speculation about the future of current players like Alexis Mac Allister. Camara and Sangare have been identified as key replacements, offering a dynamic presence the team has lacked.
Lamine Camara, 22, has impressed in Ligue 1 with Monaco, contributing three goals and two assists this season. FootMercato reports that Liverpool are accelerating their interest in the Senegal international, fending off competition from Newcastle United. Monaco are seeking a fee of €50m for Camara, a figure considered reasonable given his rising profile and an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of the same amount.
Mamadou Sangare, 23, has experienced a rapid ascent since joining Lens from Rapid Vienna last August for €8m. He embodies the qualities often sought by Premier League clubs when scouting Ligue 1 – physicality, energy, and defensive robustness, mirroring players like Cheick Doucoure and Yves Bissouma. While slightly older than Camara, Lens are hoping to secure a €50m fee for the Mali international.
Liverpool experts, such as Bence Bocsak, believe these transfers are a natural progression for the club. Bocsak stated that the double deal “has a sense of inevitability” and will be “the stuff of dreams for Liverpool fans” if completed, highlighting the influence of the club’s recruitment structure. There are some concerns regarding the potential overpayment for Sangare, whose ETV currently sits at €11.2m, despite Lens’ €50m valuation.
