Liverpool have decided to retain manager Arne Slot despite a challenging first season at Anfield, according to reports from TEAMtalk. Initial speculation suggesting Slot’s dismissal following the campaign proved unfounded, with the club’s hierarchy consistently believing he would be given more time, particularly after securing Champions League qualification.
Sources close to the club indicated that Champions League qualification was the key benchmark for Slot’s future, and achieving that goal significantly increased confidence in his position. Slot himself is reportedly appreciative of the support he has received, though aware that another trophyless season would intensify pressure from supporters and decision-makers. Liverpool are now focusing on supporting Slot with structural and coaching additions, including the arrival of Etienne Reijnen, who previously worked with Slot at Feyenoord, to improve set-piece strategy.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, who had been identified as a potential target for Liverpool should Slot have been sacked, is now attracting interest from AC Milan. Sky Sports News and Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio report that Milan have approached representatives for the 43-year-old Spaniard. The approach comes after a period of upheaval at the Italian club, with manager Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, director Igli Tare, and head of scouting Geoffrey Moncada all recently dismissed following a disappointing finish to the Serie A season.
Milan missed out on Champions League qualification after a shock defeat on the final day, prompting the widespread changes within the club’s leadership. Iraola’s availability comes as Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen have also expressed interest, presenting the Spaniard with several options for his next managerial role. Iraola’s time at Bournemouth saw a marked improvement in the team’s performance, establishing him as a highly-rated manager in the Premier League.
