Newcastle United are reportedly in discussions with Tino Livramento over a new contract, a development that alters the club’s summer transfer plans, according to Newcastle reporter Lee Ryder. The 23-year-old was previously considered a likely candidate to be sold, with his current deal expiring in 2028 and attracting interest from clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City.
Newcastle anticipate a challenging summer window following their failure to qualify for European competition, potentially leading to departures of key players such as Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. The club is keen to avoid a repeat of last summer’s transfer sagas, notably Alexander Isak’s attempted strike, and has instructed players seeking moves to resolve their futures before the start of the World Cup. Bayern Munich have already initiated talks with Gordon, while Tonali has also drawn interest, though no offers have yet met Newcastle’s valuation of over €80 million.
Livramento joined Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 for a fee of €37 million and quickly established himself as a promising young full-back capable of playing on either flank. He has earned five England caps since making his debut two years ago and was previously considered a strong contender for inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad. However, a recent injury sustained against Bournemouth has jeopardized his World Cup aspirations, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
The injury came after a previous eight-week layoff, and Livramento has struggled to consistently recapture his best form, making only 17 league appearances this season. This dip in form, combined with his injury record, has seemingly cooled interest from potential suitors like Arsenal and Manchester City, who were reportedly prepared to pay in excess of €50 million for the defender. FootballTransfers understands Arsenal had positive discussions with Livramento’s representatives but remain hesitant due to his fitness concerns.
Livramento’s willingness to re-enter contract negotiations suggests a potential change of heart, possibly indicating he has accepted the likelihood of remaining at Newcastle. The club is already planning for the departure of Kieran Trippier and has been impressed with Lewis Miley’s performances at right-back in Livramento’s absence. Securing Livramento to a new deal would provide stability in that position. However, the focus will now be on the player regaining full fitness and proving his worth to secure a future move and maintain his place in the England setup.
