Manchester City are increasingly confident of securing the transfer of 16-year-old German midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, according to TEAMtalk. The highly-rated prospect currently plays for Hertha Berlin and has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Eichhorn is considered one of Germany’s most promising youth talents, lauded for his technical ability, intelligence and maturity. However, FIFA regulations present a challenge, as Premier League clubs cannot sign players under 18 from abroad. To circumvent this, City Football Group has proposed a plan involving Eichhorn initially joining Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year loan spell.
The proposed structure would allow the teenager to continue his development in Germany while committing his long-term future to the City project. Sources suggest Leverkusen are receptive to the idea, valuing the opportunity to work with a player of Eichhorn’s potential. City have been actively focusing on youth recruitment in recent years, and view Eichhorn as a player who could eventually fit into their established footballing system.
Newcastle United are also pursuing Eichhorn, having already held talks regarding a similar loan arrangement. Other Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also considering options to sign the player. Despite the widespread interest, Eichhorn is reportedly not rushing into a decision, maintaining a strong attachment to Hertha Berlin.
However, Hertha’s recent failure to achieve promotion back to the Bundesliga may accelerate his departure, as the player assesses his options for continued development. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested, offering immediate opportunities within Germany. The situation is further complicated by speculation surrounding the future of Manchester City’s Rodri, with reports suggesting Real Madrid are interested in the Spaniard, though Eichhorn is not seen as a direct replacement at this stage.
