Manchester United have identified Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo as a potential summer transfer target, though any move is contingent on player sales, according to Sky Sports News. The Red Devils are preparing for a busy transfer window as they adjust to the demands of Champions League football and aim to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.
United secured third place in the recently concluded season while playing only 40 matches across all competitions, prompting the club to prioritize squad depth. Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team are tasked with bringing in reinforcements, with midfield a key area for improvement, alongside potential additions at left-back, in attack, and in goal, with Altay Bayindir expected to depart.
While players like Iliman Ndiaye of Everton and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers have been mentioned as targets, Fernandez-Pardo has emerged as another option. The 21-year-old, who recently earned a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad, has also attracted interest from Newcastle United, who reportedly considered him as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon. A strong performance for Belgium could intensify competition for his signature.
Journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic has indicated that Manchester United are likely to be one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window, citing the need for increased squad size due to their return to the Champions League. The club has already secured the signing of Ederson from Atalanta, but further additions are dependent on outgoings.
United are particularly keen to move on Joshua Zirkzee, the Dutch forward who has struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford, registering a combined 13 goals and assists in 75 appearances. While the club anticipates a loss on the initial £36.5 million investment, they are seeking the best possible price for the player. Juventus had previously shown interest, but that appears to have cooled, leaving United in a waiting game. Any move for Fernandez-Pardo, or another forward, will likely hinge on Zirkzee’s departure.
