Wolverhampton Wanderers have relieved Rob Edwards of his managerial duties, according to reports in The Telegraph. Edwards arrived at Molineux in November, having previously managed Middlesbrough, but departs after a challenging period with the club.
Wolves finished at the bottom of the Premier League table last season and are preparing for life in the Championship. The club hopes to achieve immediate promotion back to the top flight, and this managerial change is part of a wider restructuring effort. The departure of long-serving player Matt Doherty, who made 389 appearances for Wolves, has also recently been confirmed.
It is understood that Edwards played a key role in the recent signings of Kieran Trippier and Raúl Jiménez, which potentially complicates the club’s plans. The Telegraph notes this could create some uncertainty as Wolves move forward with their rebuild.
César Peixoto is expected to replace Edwards as manager. Peixoto recently led Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Notably, Peixoto is represented by Jorge Mendes and Gestifute, a prominent football agency with close ties to Wolverhampton.
