Emiliano Martínez is prioritizing a move to Juventus, reportedly willing to make significant concessions to facilitate the transfer from Aston Villa. According to reports in Italy, the Argentinian goalkeeper has already agreed to terms with the Turin club, reducing his desired contract length from four years to three. This adjustment is intended to ease the financial burden on Juventus and demonstrate Martínez’s strong desire to join the Serie A side.
Negotiations between Juventus and Aston Villa remain ongoing, with a considerable gap in valuation for the 31-year-old. Juventus are hoping to secure Martínez for a fee of just over €5 million, mirroring a previous, unsuccessful attempt to sign Alisson Becker. Aston Villa, however, are holding firm, demanding a fee closer to €15 million for their goalkeeper, who recently helped the club to European qualification. Martínez’s willingness to accept a shorter contract is seen as a key step in bridging this divide, potentially saving Juventus nearly €10 million in wages.
Martínez has been a key player for Aston Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers. He was instrumental in Argentina’s World Cup victory in 2022, earning the Golden Glove award. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly open to allowing Martínez to leave, having identified potential replacements in James Trafford of Manchester City and Zion Suzuki of Parma.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is keen to add Martínez to his squad, viewing him as a high-profile addition. The club has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with the player on a salary of €5 million per year for three seasons, with final details regarding bonuses and commissions still being negotiated. There is also reported interest in Juventus goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone from Besiktas, potentially further clearing the path for Martínez’s arrival. The move would allow Martínez to fulfill a long-held ambition of playing for Juventus, a club he admired while watching Gianluigi Buffon.
