Manchester United have reached a full agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson for a fee of €45 million, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The deal, which has been in progress for some time with personal terms agreed last month, is now “100% confirmed” with all paperwork completed and signed off between the two clubs, though an official announcement is expected in July.
Alongside the completion of the Ederson transfer, United are also actively pursuing Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. According to CaughtOffside, the Red Devils have “moved ahead” of Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for the Italy international, with co-owners INEOS backing a bid potentially exceeding €90 million. Newcastle are reportedly reluctant to sell and are seeking a fee in excess of €100 million, but United’s financial muscle and the other clubs’ priorities make them the current favourites.
The situation surrounding Mason Greenwood, currently on loan at Marseille, is also developing. Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi claims to have agreed personal terms with Greenwood, but Fabrizio Romano clarifies that no agreement exists yet with Marseille, who are demanding up to €55 million for the former United forward. Manchester United retain a significant financial interest in any deal, possessing a substantial sell-on clause from the agreement that sent Greenwood to Marseille.
Further complicating potential transfer business is the upheaval at West Ham United. Following the club’s relegation and the recent resignation of joint-chair David Sullivan amidst allegations, Manchester United’s pursuit of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes may be affected. The Hammers have been seeking a fee of over €80 million for the Portugal international, while United value him closer to €50 million, and the changes in leadership could influence negotiations. The departures of key figures like Karren Brady and Max Hahn add further uncertainty to West Ham’s summer plans.
Ederson’s arrival at Old Trafford will bolster United’s midfield options, providing competition and depth. Tonali, should he arrive, would offer a different profile of midfielder, adding steel and tactical versatility. The Greenwood situation remains complex, but a sale would provide a financial benefit to United, while a resolution to the Fernandes transfer will depend on West Ham’s evolving position.
