Manchester United are heavily interested in signing 17-year-old Mexican attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora, but face significant competition from Real Madrid and a host of other European clubs, according to TEAMtalk. Scouts from United were present at the Mexico City Stadium to watch Mora’s performance in Mexico’s 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic, where he delivered an outstanding display.
Mora, who has already earned a full international cap for Mexico at just 16 years old, has been a standout talent for Club Tijuana, playing senior football since the age of 15. His recent performances at the 2026 World Cup, where he became the sixth-youngest starter in the tournament’s history, have further elevated his profile. He signed a new three-year contract with Club Tijuana before the tournament, indicating his commitment to developing in Mexico for now.
United, co-owned by INEOS, have been in regular contact with Mora’s camp and are determined to secure his signature when he is available. However, they are not alone in their pursuit, with Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool also monitoring the situation closely. Interest extends beyond the Premier League, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig all expressing admiration for the player.
Despite the widespread interest, Real Madrid are currently considered the frontrunners for Mora’s signature. The player has publicly stated his admiration for Los Blancos, and the Spanish giants are also keen to acquire him. However, a transfer is not expected imminently, as Mora will not turn 18 until October 2027, making a move to Europe unrealistic before then. Clubs are positioning themselves for a future transfer, recognizing Mora’s potential as a generational talent.
