Manchester United have registered their interest in Como midfielder Martin Baturina, according to Sky Sports Italy, following his impressive performance against England at Euro 2024. The 23-year-old scored a notable goal in Croatia’s opening match, a curling effort past Jordan Pickford, before England ultimately won the contest.
United are actively seeking to bolster their midfield options under new manager Michael Carrick, with a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson nearing completion. The departures of Casemiro and the potential move of Manuel Ugarte to AC Milan have further highlighted the need for reinforcements in that area of the pitch. The club reportedly decided against pursuing Elliot Anderson of Manchester City and Sandro Tonali, who is now linked with several other Premier League clubs.
Baturina joined Como last summer from Dinamo Zagreb for a reported £22 million and has quickly become a key player for Cesc Fabregas’ side, contributing eight goals and four assists as they qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. He is versatile, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing, a position United are also considering strengthening, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future.
Como have already rejected a £43 million offer for Baturina, with Bayern Munich also expressing interest. The Italian club are currently unwilling to sell a player considered vital to their plans. Baturina’s ability to play multiple positions would offer Carrick tactical flexibility, and his recent form suggests he could make an immediate impact in the Premier League. His arrival would provide competition and depth in midfield as United look to challenge for top honours next season.
